A warning to all writers and potential writers

A guy called Andy Groaning wrote some seemingly original content for Technology Bloggers recently. This was published on Monday.

WARNING!I did a quick check today, and it turns out that the article was also published elsewhere, just before we posted it (as it was scheduled).

Our post guidelines specifically say

You can repost the content on your own site 3 days after it has been published on Technology Bloggers, as long as it has a dofollow link to the article, and if possible (not necessary but thoughtful) to Technology Bloggers

Duplicate content can kill a blog – it can make search engines hate you. This is why we have this rule. One very selfish person like Andy could bring down the entire community blog. Bye bye community, bye bye great content, bye bye everyone’s dofollow links etc.

Before guest posting, please read our post guidelines or your post will be rejected.


Andy also had two other posts in the queue for moderation, these were both launched elsewhere already.

Andy you have lost your links, your article and your profile. I have also notified the other blogs involved, so you can expect a big loss in links soon.

Let this be a warning to others – duplicate content will be destroyed.

1 month of Technology Bloggers – happy days!

Technology Bloggers is now 1 month old. On the 13th of April 2011, Technology Bloggers was born. 1 month on I don’t need to boast about it’s success!

I have some great news to mark this ‘historic’ event!

I have recently set up some pages for the writers of Technology Bloggers. These pages give details on all sorts of things that you may want to know about, concerning writing for Technology Bloggers. If you aren’t sure about something check them out and they should give you some guidance!

Resources For WritersApply for author status
Also, you are now able to apply for author status. This means that after three good, approved posts with no corrections, you can become an author, rather than a contributor. Authors will get a link on the sidebar to their site, and they will be able to publish content by themselves! Be sure to check out the author guidelines page first though!

AdSense for writers
From today, authors will be able to add 1 AdSense ad unit to their articles. I have decided to allow this as a way of thanking authors, as I can’t give contributors links on the sidebar too, as it will drain the blog’s PageRank!

Not sure what the ads look like? Check out the one below. AdSense policy says you shouldn’t encourage people to click on the ads, but if it looks interesting or useful, please don’t refrain from clicking, I am sure the author of that article won’t mind 😉


Why is there an AdSense ad on the sidebar?

This is to help me (Christopher Roberts) pay for the domain name and the hosting. Technology Bloggers has three domain names and buying these and hosting them isn’t cheap!

Did you know around 9 million people in the UK have never used the internet?

That is why, this week the UK government announced that it has 100,000 people volunteering to be net champions.

What is a net champion?

A net champion is someone who helps someone else get online.

Who are the current net champions?

Many of the current volunteers are Scouts, Post Office workers and librarians.

People in low income households save around £270 per year, just from being online. These savings may come via using tools like Skype, having the ability to shop around more, or by switching to better deals online.

The thing is many people, especially the elderly don’t realise this. Therefore helping and educating them should increase their ability to save money, and will hopefully also enrich their lives via using things like social media.

What if you don’t have a computer?

Some firms, including Microsoft have made available a range of cheap computers. These  low-priced ‘recycled’ PCs will be available from about £95.

The UK Prime Minister, David Cameron has backed the campaign. From what I have heard and read about it, it seems like a good idea to me too. What do you think, should we encourage more people onto the net, especially the elderly, or would they make the net a more dangerous place?
