Writing A Series

General Information

A series is a group of articles which are all related and of a similar theme. It is a good way to discuss a topic in more detail and/or convey more information that you are able to in a single post.

Say for example you wanted to discuss climate change (as Jonny did in his first series) you may want to discuss why it is happening, the consequences, the possible benefits, methods of prevention, and look at a few case studies. You could not do this in one article, so this warrants a series of posts.

Series post at regular intervals, either weekly or fortnightly.

A series can be any number of posts from 4/5 upwards. Generally they consist of the introductory article, 4/5 other articles and then the closing article.

Eligibility

Any writer can create a series, no-matter what their rank. You must already have a Technology Bloggers account and have written and had posted at least one article before you are eligible to write a series.

Structure

Each series will start with an article explaining what the series is going to be about, what it aims to research/explain/discuss etc. and what sort of content you can expect over the next few weeks/months.

Each series will end with an article concluding and summarising the previous ones, staying what has been found out/learned/what we can take from the previous articles, and possibly mentioning the comments on those articles.

If you want to write a series, you will get a set day to publish on. This helps give consistency as readers know when to expect the next post. Your day will either be weekly or fortnightly, however you may be allowed to publish your series less frequently if you can justify your need.

Before You Start

Before you start your series, you need to submit a plan (no need to be too extensive) to the admin team of how you propose your series will run. The plan should include a rough/draft outline of what will appear in each post. If you feel there may be any obstacles that could arise during the writing of your series, you should include details in your plan, along with details of how you would deal with them.

After your plan has been accepted you will need to write the introductory post to your series and the first post.

We will need assurance that you are able to post regularly in order to grant you the ability to write a series.

Once your first two articles are approved, they will go live, and you will be expected to keep writing towards your series until you have finished your final article.
