Bye bye Ming Ming

Ever heard of Ming Ming. Chances are you have. Ming Ming was the worlds oldest Panda, and I am sorry to say was.

Aged 34, the Chinese panda Ming Ming died around a week ago. At the time, she was being held in the Xiangjiang Wild Animal World – in Guangdong Province China.

In the wild, a giant panda like Ming Ming would usually survive for up to 30 years in captivity, or about 15-20 years in the wild, due to the more strenuous lifestyle. Ming Ming was the oldest panda in the world at 36, so we are at a great loss to see here go.

It is thought that Ming Ming died of old age. Her organs were deteriorating, and last week this lead to kidney failure for the poor bear.

Ming Ming had a very busy life, she travelled many places including Ireland, the United Kingdom and China. What a panda!

Pandas are an endangered species, with only around 1,800 thought to still be alive in the entire world.

The world has truly lost something special in the death of Ming Ming 🙁

RIP Ming Ming

  1. With the loss of each individual of the endangered species, the world is losing its heritage. We all need to understand this fact and need to make sure that these animals stay with us as long as we-the humans do.

Very true James, although once such a species reaches such dangerously low numbers, it can be hard to ensure their survival 🙁

      • We have been investing so much in weapons and artillery and elements of mass destruction, even a fraction of it can bring mass conservation, but perhaps the governments aren’t that much interested in that.

  2. I’ve heard about Ming Ming and I’m really sorry but we all (animals and people) will die one day, no matter how safe and quiet our life is 🙁

Hopefully everyone reading this (and writing this) has many many happy years left yet though! 🙂

  3. Ming Ming is a very cute Panda! It’s amazing how this Panda reached a longer age than expected. Well for sure, all care were given to Ming Ming when she’s still alive that’s let her live much longer. I wonder if there will be another animal who will also give joy to everybody.

No doubt there will be Adrian, lets just hope that it doesn’t need to become extinct first! 😛
