The importance of comments

For 99% of blogs, comments are vital. They are the power behind blogging. People voicing their opinions on things that matter to them.

Not getting me? The comments are the fire of blogging, leading me perfectly onto my analogy of what comments are.

The analogy!

When creating fire you need three things:

  1. The right atmosphere (oxygen rich)
  2. Fuel
  3. Heat

These create fire.

Comments works in a very similar way. Comments also need three things:

  1. The blogosphere – when and where everyone meets and interacts (like the atmosphere)
  2. Articles – the substance to debate argue and discuss (like the fuel of the blogosphere, what it runs off)
  3. Opinions – these are people’s views on things which then cause them to write (like heat)

These three powerful elements create comments. The environment is set, the content is there, people’s opinions are brimming, bring on the comments!

Without comments I doubt that blogging would still be going now. Yes blogging is said to have died multiple times in the last decade, but it still lives on strong, and people like us are leading the community, pushing the boundaries to find new frontiers!

Thank you

As comments are so valuable, I though it would be a great idea to thank the commenters of this blog, as a way of saying ‘welcome to the community’!

It’s a real pleasure to comment here. I know many blogs but only few I wnt to comment on. You are one of them. Hope to see other interesting topics for commenting from you. Hope you’ll have time (despite being busy as you have promised) to share something interesting with us.

Thanks for mentioning me! Hope to be in the first three places! I don’t know why but I like your blog – maybe because of the posts that are interesting for commenting. I wish you prosperity and many more interesting posts.

    • Christopher (admin team) says:

Good luck with your top commenter efforts! The Widget refreshed every month, but I probably won’t post about it every month, as I don’t have the time! Maybe a big thank you late on in the year :-)

I don’t know why but I like your blog – I think it just feels right some how, doesn’t it? Is it the community feeling, the way we write, or simply the topics? Who knows!

A blog is not a blog without comments. That is how important comments are.

  8. Chadrack from Making Money Blogging says:

Comments are really the fire of blogging. I remember when I started blogging, despite the wonderful articles I was posting no one seemed to care. For over 2 months the blog was just “dry”. But then when the comments started coming I felt some emotional jump for then the blog appears to have come alive! No blogger will want to post on a blog and not hear others in the comments.

James, I think it is very important to reply to comments, especially if they are ‘begging’ for a reply, or if it is a users first comment :-)

Useful blog by the way ;-)

  11. James Fisher says:

I am embarrased to say I have never commented on this site (have I Chris?), while Chris has left comments at WindowsTalk several times. Some days, I am just too busy to visit all my ‘friends’ it seems! :)

  12. Pete says:

For me, comments make everybody active. The more active both the blog owner and readers are, the more chances to exchange ideas or to build new topics. I read one blog post before that the blog owner finds topics thru the comments of his visitors. That’s pretty wise strategy.

It is often a good idea to check comments for article ideas, countless times this has worked for me Pete!

  13. Antonia says:

Definitely, with no comments blogs would be like wikipedia, just not that good :)
While a blog can definitely survive with no comments, it can’t grow like this. And i believe every blogger’s dream is for his blog to grow.

  14. Writing comment for a post or an article is basically interesting the fact that it challenged the mind of one’s person to impart ideas in various fields or topics. In the part of bloggers, definitely receiving comments from others give them inspiration to create more posts and above all it shows that there are people who have appreciated your work or what you have being promoted.

Comments are like blood for a blog. Without comments and conversations, it does not take much time for a blog to die. :(

  16. An interesting aspect of blog comments is the fact that people who leave comments on your blog can also leave links to other blogs or websites or their own blogs to further the conversation. These links can be a great resource to help you find new blogs to read.

  17. Usman says:

I feel inspired by your strategy of commenting. I would also love to implement the same strategy as it creates a win win situation for both the commentator and then blog. Just one question how do you moderate the links and comments?

  18. Jack from 320i bmw says:

    Hi Christopher and ALL,

Comments are the life of a blog and it definitely is a measurement of a blog’s success and acceptance from the audience.

Even if there always has to be the first commentator to a blog or a blogpost, (someone has to make the start), seeing a lot of comments and different opinions being shared is what blogging is finally about besides the monetary benefits one can aspire to get.
